It really depends on what ambient means to you. Typically the nature of ambient music is textural over rhythmic. Typically you can expect sparse percussion, long evolving sounds, ethereal textures, and plenty of processing to give the sounds a mor. Well, it's really all about feel. I sometimes make dark ambient music, but I find it's hard when you aren't in that 'dark' mood. Turn out the lights, get into the mood then go in and make your music. Hoped that helped.
Ambience (cave sounds in Legacy Console Edition and eerie noise according to subtitles) is a set of sounds that occasionally play when the player is in proximity to a dark space.

Behavior[edit]
Ambient sounds can be played in any dimension, including the Nether and the End, and can be heard in both singleplayer and multiplayer. Ambience can occur in a space of any size, but they seem much more likely to be heard in larger spaces that are completely filled with a light level lower than 8, without any lighting from the sky. Ambience is more likely to play from the direction of darker spaces. The space does not need to be sealed off or hidden - ambience can be heard from a space that the player can actually see - nor does the player need to be underground to hear ambient sounds.

Trivia[edit]
- Since bodies of water have light level zero everywhere more than 4 blocks deep, on rare occasions ambient noises can be heard if the player is standing by an ocean or deep body of water, regardless of light level outside the water.
- When ambient sound 14 is viewed in a spectrogram, it appears to be a creeper face.
